ヨミドリYomidori
よみどり[2]
Point at a word, get its reading.
A companion for whatever Japanese you're reading — a paperback, a manga, a screen, a page you pasted. Tap the word you can't read and get its reading and its pitch, right there, without leaving the page. The sentence you were reading becomes a card, and the cards are what you study.
Coming to the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Help only where asked
No furigana over the whole page, no translation of anything you didn't tap. Recognizing the kanji you know is the point of reading; the app speaks when you say you don't. Tap a word in a vertical column or a horizontal line and the whole word lights up with its reading in kana and its pitch accent. The meaning is one more tap away, never shown before you ask.
The book is the corpus
Keep a word and the sentence you met it in, as it stood on the page, becomes its card. Meet the same word in another book and the card gains a second sentence. Collections keep the cards by book, with the cover you scanned.
Lessons and reviews that ask you to type
A lesson starts a card when you have time for it. Reviews ask three things: the reading and the meaning by typing, and which pitch by a pick. A question you miss comes back until you get it right. Spaced by FSRS, with a switch for how often you'd like words back.
Birds, not streaks
Every card climbs from egg to hatchling, chick, fledgling, flying and migrating as you remember it. The Study tab shows the week ahead by quarter day, in the colours of the birds coming up, so a wall of reviews is seen before it arrives — and nothing nags.
Pitch, drawn
Tokyo pitch accent from Kanjium, drawn over the kana the way a dictionary draws it, estimated for compounds when the dictionary is silent. Kanji come with their stroke order and their parts, and a kanji you can't type can be found by its parts.
Everything on the device
Text recognition, tokenizing, readings, pitch, cards: all local, offline, from dictionaries bundled with the app. No account, no server, no model in the cloud. Your cards sync between your devices through your own iCloud, unless you turn that off.
iPhone, iPad & Mac
One app under one purchase, the same cards everywhere. The phone reads the book in your other hand, or a screenshot of anything on it; the Mac reads what is pasted or dropped on it and reviews on a keyboard. English and Japanese, from day one.
