Yomidori is developed in the open. The best place for bugs and requests is the issue tracker:

Please say which device and OS version, and what you did — a photo of the page that went wrong helps most of all. Email works too: ville@misaki.fi.

Yomidori is free with no ads or in-app purchases. If you’d like to support the work, you can sponsor the developer on GitHub — entirely optional.

Common questions

Where are my cards? On your device, and in your own iCloud while Sync with iCloud is on in Settings (it is, unless you turned it off), so your iPhone, iPad and Mac show the same cards. Nothing is kept anywhere else. Settings also saves a backup file of the cards, the collections and the lookup history, which restores on any device.

Is it one app for iPhone, iPad and Mac? Yes — one app under one purchase, with the same cards on all of them.

The reading is wrong, or the word was cut in the wrong place. Text read off paper is sometimes read wrong by a character, and a word joined from several pieces can be cut either way. Under a word, Fix the text corrects a character and reads the page again; a joined word also lists the words it is made of, each to keep by itself. If the dictionary itself is wrong, that’s worth an issue.

It reads the page sideways, or doesn’t read it at all. The page is read the way the phone was held when you pressed Read; if the phone was flat or turned, turn it upright and read again. Vertical text, as in a paperback, is read as columns; the Vision recognizer under the page is there for a line Live Text misses.

What are the birds? How far a card has come: an egg is waiting for its lesson, then a hatchling, chick, fledgling, flying and migrating bird as the word stays remembered longer. A word you forget goes down a step, not back to the egg, and a word you truly forgot can be sent back to waiting from the review.

How often does a word come back? On the FSRS schedule, aimed at remembering 90 % of what comes up. Aim to remember in Settings makes it 95 %, which brings each word back about twice as often.

I changed the language and nothing happened. The language setting takes effect the next time you open the app — the system loads it at launch. Quit and reopen Yomidori and it’ll be in the new language.
